New MIT Media Lab

It is comforting to know that there are still places in the world for wild ideas and unrestrained corporate largess. The new MIT Media Lab, a $90 million dollar, six-story high tech playpen opens its doors.

Even if I just have a normal job today, maybe tomorrow I could be doing some thing like this:

One graduate student shows a pair of electronic gloves that sense motion. He suggests that they could be paired to do eleaborate fist-bumb hand-shakes, allowing access only when both users went through the right series of moves. Marcelo Coelho, a graduate student shows a concept for a digital kitchen tool that he compared to “a 3D printer for food.” The computer screen showed dozens of food tubes above a convection oven. He said he had built a prototype that made lasagna that “tasted pretty good.”
